A Measure for Combating Infection Following Intraocular Operations

Arch Ophthalmol. 2003;121:714.

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 104 words of the full text and any section headings.

The author has shown by numerous experiments on the eyes of rabbits the truth of Andogski's statement that the severity of post-operative infectiondepends partly on the presence of lens fragments. If portions of the lens are in the anterior chamber, the introduction of a virulent culture of staphylococcus aureus produces panophthalmitis; . . . In order to combat the infection, the author introduces into the anterior chamber small flat sticks of bougies of sterilized iodoform, which he kneads with gum arabic and a little glycerine to the desired size.
